Repairs & Service

Our expert service technicians have over 40 years of instrument repair and maintenance experience, and are capable of tackling any job, from a simple guitar restring to complex reconstructions. The repair department is also an authorized service centre for some of the brands we sell, such as Fender, Taylor, Marshall and more!

We specialize in servicing:

  • Acoustic & Electric Guitars & Basses
  • Guitar, Bass & P.A. Amplifiers & Speaker Cabinets
  • Digital Keyboards & Pianos
  • Brass and Woodwind Instruments
  • Drums & Hardware

Each job is unique to the instrument and player, so while we can offer price quotes on simple services such as setups and restrings, it is best that we see the instrument in person first in order to properly assess your needs. We encourage you to call our service department at 705-472-9907 for more information.

Meet our Service Technicians:

Robert Ahern

“Bob” has been a fixture at Music City for decades, and customers far-and-wide rely on his expertise and skill to keep their instruments in excellent playing condition. Bob began his journey with Music City in 1974, after years on the road playing drums with various Ontario-based musical acts. Bob first received his training in guitar repair under the tutelage of Canadian luthier Kevin Hall, and supplemented his training with repairing band instruments and electronic amplifiers with Fred Mueller. Bob is a certified technician for warranty service from both Taylor Guitars and Fender Musical Instruments. In addition to his skills as a repair technician, Bob is also an astute salesman and manages our rental department. Bob loves a challenge and has been able to take many “unfixable” instruments and breathe new life back into them.

Robin Bilan

Our resident electronic s technician, Robin has been handling amplifier, effects and keyboard repairs since his early days at Music City in the 1980s. His interest in electronics began during his teenage years when he began modifying and designing synthesizers for physics projects in high school. From there he went on to graduate with Honours from Canadore College with a Robotics Technician Program diploma in 1986. His tenure at Music City began in 1987 and spent a brief retraining sabbatical at Nortek Computers  in 1997 before returning back to the store. Robin is an authorized service technician for Fender Amplifiers and has also performed authorized work on many of our brands, including Yamaha, Roland and Korg. In his spare time, Robin enjoys modifying and rebuilding his own personal collection of vintage digital and analog synths, as well as performing as a live keyboardist at many restaurants and venues around North Bay.

Kris Boaro

A new addition to our service department, Kris’ history with Music City reaches back quite far to when he first began taking drum lessons here with Mike Brushey in 2007 at the young age of eleven. After continuing lessons on both drums and guitar during his teenage years Kris embarked on his new path in guitar repair, training at Galloup School of Guitar Building & Repair and earning his degree as a Journeyman Fretted Instrument Technician in 2013. Kris returned to Music City that year as an employee and continues his training as an apprentice under Robert Ahern in our own service department.
